Zeltro as a Framer alternative

Framer builds good-looking marketing sites, but they live on Framer's hosting, its help center says there is no HTML export, and it trains on your work unless you switch it off. Framer is a visual website builder, and a very polished one. You design on a canvas, add a CMS, press publish, and Framer hosts the result. Its AI agent can lay out a landing page from a prompt. For a designer who wants a marketing site live this week, it is one of the nicest tools there is.

People start looking elsewhere for a few reasons: the site can only live on Framer, the bill grows with pages, collections and editors, or the project needs things a website builder does not do, like sign-in, a real database, or code of their own. This page is about those reasons.

Can you take a Framer site with you?#

Framer's help center answers it directly: "Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting… Can I download my website's HTML files from Framer? No." It explains that features such as server-side rendering, image optimization and font subsetting depend on Framer's own infrastructure. The closest thing to self-hosting is its Advanced Hosting add-on, at $200 a month, which puts Framer's hosting behind your own server rather than replacing it.

Your CMS content can be exported as CSV or JSON through plugins. The design, the pages and the interactions stay in Framer. Framer does let you write React code components inside its editor, but that is React going into Framer, not your site coming out as React.

What the bill looks like#

Framer prices each site separately. Basic is $10 a month billed yearly, or $15 monthly, for 30 pages and 2 CMS collections. Pro is $30 a month yearly, or $45 monthly, for 150 pages and 10 collections. Going past those limits costs more: another 100 pages is $20 a month, 10 more collections $40, extra bandwidth $40 per 100 GB. Every extra editor is $20 a month, each extra language $20, and AI credits reset each month without rolling over.

A Zeltro site has none of those meters. The app is free for personal use, and hosting costs whatever your host charges. Many small sites fit on a server that costs a few dollars a month, alongside everything else you run.

What Zeltro does differently#

Zeltro is a do-it-yourself dev platform for your own machine. You describe what you want and it suggests how to build it: a ready-made app if one already does the job, or a framework and a database if it needs building from scratch. Then your AI agent builds it in a real project on your disk.

• Websites and apps, in the same place. Start a WordPress or Ghost site, a fast static site in Astro, or a full app in Next.js, Laravel or Django, and add sign-in, payments or a database when the site needs one.
• The tools a marketing site needs, installed in a click. Plausible, Umami or Matomo for analytics, listmonk for newsletters, Directus as a headless CMS: 214 ready-made apps in all, wired to shared databases.
• Host it anywhere. It is ordinary code, so any host works, and moving later is copying a folder.
• You choose the AI and who pays for it. A subscription you already have, a low-cost model through OpenRouter, or a local model.
• Your work stays yours. Your code, prompts and keys never go to Zeltro, and there is no account. The app is free for personal use (businesses pay US$99.99 once) and its command line tool is open source.

Before you switch#

• Framer's canvas is a designer's tool. Zeltro builds with code, written by your AI agent from what you describe, so you steer it in words rather than by dragging boxes. Point the agent at a screenshot or a Framer page you like and it can match the look.
• Framer hosts in one click. Zeltro runs the site on your own computer until you put it on a server. If you would rather not deal with that, I will take it live for you: your domain, your server, kept running.
• Moving an existing Framer site means rebuilding it, because Framer has no export. Your CMS content comes across as CSV or JSON, and your AI agent can use that to fill the new site.

Why people switch to Zeltro#

• They want a site they own and can host anywhere, not one that exists only on a single platform.
• They are tired of paying per site, per editor, per language and per 100 pages.
• The site has grown into an app: it needs sign-in, a database or code of its own.
